1-year-old hurt in Rosemoor hit-and-run

A 1-year-old girl was hurt in a South Side vehicle crash after a hit-and-run Sunday night, according to Chicago police.

A red Dodge utility van was heading south in the 10500 block of South Vernon Avenue in Rosemoor when it crashed into the side of a silver Ford hatchback around 11:40 p.m. There were three people in the hatchback, including the driver and the 1-year-old.

The driver of the Dodge utility van took off running after hitting the Ford hatchback and had not been identified as of Monday morning, according to an online statement from police.

The girl was taken in good condition to Comer Children’s Hospital, officials said.

The hit-and-run happened days after an unrelated hit-and-run crash Thursday, in which 11-year-old honor roll student Ja’Lon James was killed, according to police.

James, who had just finished fifth grade at Theodore Herzl Elementary School, died as a result of a fatal hit-and-run in Lawndale and authorities continue looking for information about the case.
