Prince William took secret morning run in Central Park on Tuesday

While not quite the runaway royal his brother has become, Prince William got the chance to make a run for it while visiting New York City this week.

Britain’s future king went for a secret morning run in Central Park on Tuesday ahead of his hectic schedule in Manhattan, which included the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit at the Plaza Hotel.

“I decided to join the hordes of New Yorkers doing their morning routine,” he revealed during a fireside chat with 2021 Earthshot Prize winner Vaitea Cowan. “It was wonderful waking up in New York on a sunny morning rather than the rain we had yesterday. It was beautiful getting some fresh air this morning.”

Prince William, 41, shared that it was “wonderful to be back” in the Big Apple after almost a decade: “I think 2014 was the last time I was here.”

During that December 2014 visit, he and Kate Middleton toured the September 11 Memorial and Museum in Lower Manhattan, took in a Brooklyn Nets game at Barclays Center, and attended a ritzy dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which served as a fundraiser for the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where the couple first fell in love.

At Tuesday’s summit, Prince William confirmed that he will be traveling to Singapore for the 2023 Earthshot Prize ceremony on Nov. 7. The organization announced the 15 finalists competing to win one of this year’s five grants for their innovative work to fight climate change.

The inaugural awards — which recognizes entrepreneurs developing cutting-edge climate solutions — took place in London in 2021, while last year’s ceremony was held in Boston.

Founded in 2020, the name of the prize is a nod to President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 “moonshot” speech about astronauts on the moon.
